Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is usually characterized by a prolonged bout of fatigue accompanied by a wide range of other symptoms. The condition can affect individuals of any age but is more common between the ages of 25 and 45, with females usually affected more than males.
An adult is diagnosed with CFS if, for at least four months, they have had chronic fatigue but with no obvious other medical issue causing the condition. The main symptoms associated with CFS include sore throat, muscle pain, lack of concentration, joint pain, headaches, and fitful sleep. Some other symptoms that can also occur are abdominal pain, bloating, cough, chest pain, earache, jaw pain, stiffness, diarrhea, weight loss, nausea and night sweats.
As a rule, the symptoms of CFS are not improved by taking bed rest and conversely may be made worse by some physical or mental activities. As it is unknown what actually causes the condition, it is very difficult to prevent; it is not, though, a contagious condition. Some causes that are thought to contribute to CFS include having had a viral infection of some description, depression, stress or a life changing event such as loss of employment or bereavement.

The prevalence of fatigue states
Following on from this, there are no specific treatments’ for the condition either, but medication can be prescribed for the associated symptoms, for example, taking painkillers for headaches.

An anxiety disorder can loosely be described as a condition where feelings of anxiety can get in the way of normal, everyday life. Many things can cause or even be classed as an anxiety disorder, and these can include phobia, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic attacks and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Anxiety attacks can be caused by a variety of conditions, both mental and physical. On the mental side of things, problems such as alcohol dependence, depression, substance abuse (including drugs, nicotine and caffeine) and medicine withdrawal can all cause anxiety. Physically, a person could be affected due to illnesses or cosmetic reasons such as appearance. It can also be brought on by stress due to traumatic events like bereavement.

Anxiety
There are some physical symptoms attributed to being anxious and these occur due to the body’s natural “fight or flight” response due to the release of adrenaline. These can include dry mouth, diarrhoea, tightness in the chest, rapid heartbeat, dizziness, shortness of breath, shaking, the need to urinate more frequently and swallowing difficulty.
A few psychological symptoms associated with anxiety include uneasiness, insomnia, irritability, tiredness, lack of concentration and a fear of “going mad”. Sometimes, when anxiety disorders and other conditions such as schizophrenia, depression or bipolar disorder occur together, suicide or self-harm can often be the regrettable outcome.

Obesity occurs when excess weight causes health problems. People with obesity usually have a BMI or Body Mass Index greater than 30. Weight gain is usually caused when energy (calorie) intake is more than calories burnt. There are many risks for people with obesity as it can contribute to an increase in a variety of diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and some forms of cancer. Some people are more prone to weight gain than others and this can be down to genes, however, most people find that obesity is a factor of lifestyle and eating behaviors.
Many people eat when they are depressed, lonely, anxious, stressed or just when they are bored. Obesity is also linked to a lack of physical exercise. In today’s day there seems to be more and more examples of children showing signs of obesity at an alarmingly young age. Schools, parents and government organizations seem to be recognizing the need to encourage children to eat more healthily and to support exercise programs.

Obesity
There is a higher amount of processed, cheaper foods available on the market today which are higher in sugar, salt, and fat which contributes to the increase in obesity levels among young people. Coupled with the trend for video games and increased numbers of TV channels it is no surprise that more and more young people are being diagnosed with obesity every day.
Diet and exercise are the most important factors when preventing obesity. In order to lose weight people need to reduce daily calories and partake in at least 20 – 30 minutes of exercise daily. Increased fruit and vegetables can help to feel full and reduce the chance of reaching for sugary foods which contain more fat.
