Birth control pills are basically pills that are taken on a daily basis and which contain certain hormones that will change the way the uterus and ovaries perform thereby preventing pregnancy. Most birth control pills today are classified as combination pills which means they contain both progesterone and estrogen hormones which prevent the release of eggs in a women’s monthly cycle (ovulation). If there are no eggs released, a woman cannot get pregnant.

Another function of the pill is that it thickens the mucus found around the cervix, making it very hard for sperm to get into the uterus and finding any eggs that could have been released. The pills hormones sometimes affect the uterus’ lining as well so that any eggs released will find it very difficult to attach to the sides.

Birth Control Pills and Other Common Methods

Most combo pills come in 21-day or 28-day packets, with one taken each day. With a 21-day pack you will stop taking the pill for seven days at the end of the cycle and with the 28-day pack you will take seven pills without any hormones at the end of the cycle. Women then tend to get their periods when they cease taking the pills that contain the hormones.

When the body cannot use glucose efficiently due to lack of the hormone insulin or because any insulin available may not be working effectively, diabetes occurs. The body converts all glucose from food into energy and this glucose is found readymade in sweet or starchy foods like cakes and pasta. The liver can also make its own glucose.

Under normal circumstances, insulin created in the pancreas regulates the amount of glucose in the bloodstream, but when the body starts not being able to regulate the glucose levels, diabetes occurs.

Diabetes is a condition that has been recognized for over 3,500 years. What is interesting is that for all the people that actually have the condition, there are nearly another 33% that number again who have the condition but do not know it. Three-quarters of all diabetes sufferers are classed as having type 2 diabetes, with the remainder having type 1 diabetes mellitus.

The difference between these two types of diabetes is that in type 1 the body is incapable of producing insulin whereas in type 2, not enough insulin is produced. As a rule, type 1 usually manifests itself in childhood or early adulthood and can be treated using insulin injections and diet control. Type 2 diabetes usually affects people as they grow older, normally after forty years of age.

Diabetes Symptoms

Indigestion, or dyspepsia, describes the discomfort or pain felt in the chest or upper abdomen area normally soon after eating a meal. It sometimes describes the burning sensation felt in the chest, otherwise known as heartburn.

Indigestion normally occurs when the acid found in the stomach starts to flow back up the oesophagus (this is the pipe that attaches the mouth with the stomach). Although normally occurring after eating a meal, it can happen at any time. Symptoms of indigestion include discomfort, pain or a feeling of fullness in the upper abdomen or chest area; loss of appetite; heartburn; nausea; and burping or flatulence.

Occurrences of indigestion can be triggered by smoking; excessive alcohol use; anxiety or stress; some medicines; some foods; or not eating regularly which leads to a buildup of excess acid in the stomach.

Individuals can reduce the symptoms of indigestion by doing some of the following: stopping smoking; cutting down on coffee, tea, alcohol and fatty foods; eating three hours or more before going to bed; stop overeating or eating too fast; and reducing stress.

Antacid medication is an over-the-counter treatment that is effective at relieving symptoms of indigestion. These help neutralize excess acid in the stomach and usually contain aluminum or magnesium. Others contain an ingredient known as alginate which acts by forming a barrier of sorts that floats at the top of the stomach, therefore preventing reflux.
