Alzheimer’s disease is a physical condition that affects the brain and is the most common form of dementia worldwide. A German neurologist by the name of Alois Alzheimer first described the disease in the early 1900’s and was he who the condition was named after.

When the disease is present in the brain, types of “tangles” develop in the brains structure which kills brain cells. Disease sufferers also have a shortage of a chemical in the brain which is responsible for the transmission of messages. As the disease progresses over time, more areas of the brain are damaged and any symptoms then become more severe.
Early stage symptoms include memory lapses and difficulty in finding the right words to speak or describe something. The progression of the disease brings confusion, forgetfulness, mood swings and frustration and withdrawal due to communication and confidence issues.
Up to the present time, no one has been able to pinpoint one particular factor that contributes to the onset of Alzheimer’s disease but it is widely agreed that it is probably a combination of factors including age, genetic makeup, diet, environmental factors and general health. Some people may even have the disease for years before any symptoms appear.
Unfortunately, presently there is no known cure for the condition, but certain drugs have been produced that can help alleviate some of the symptoms or slow down the diseases progression.

People with personality disorders may have conditions such as not being able to live with others, not being able to maintain relationships with other people, finding it difficult to control emotions or upsetting other people when distressed.
Causes of personality disorders can include genetic makeup, mental or emotional state or brain problems. There are three types of personality disorder: suspicious, emotional and impulsive, and anxious.
Suspicious personality disorders are where the sufferer is often paranoid of other people, and finds it difficult to interact with others, preferring their own company instead. The person with a suspicious personality disorder is often seen by others as strange or peculiar.
Emotional and impulsive personality disorders are where the sufferer is indifferent to other people’s feelings and can be quite aggressive. They often find it difficult to control emotions and will do this spontaneously without thinking about the consequences. Sufferers will also self harm if they feel really bad about themselves.
Anxious personality disorders are where the sufferer worries about everything. They are very indecisive and worry constantly about doing the wrong thing. Anxious sufferers are overly sensitive to criticism and can often feel worthless or incompetent.
There are therapies which can help such as psychotherapy or cognitive behavioral therapy. There is also medication available to help with the different groups of personality disorders. Antipsychotic drugs can help those in the suspicious group while antidepressants can help to relieve the symptoms of those in the emotional group. There are also some antidepressants which have been shown to help those in the anxious group such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI).

Incontinence is to have a loss of bowel or bladder control but is not a disease – rather a symptom of some underlying problem. Lots of medical issues can cause incontinence and these can include birth defects, pelvic region injuries, pelvic surgery, neurological diseases, aging issues brought on by degeneration, multiple sclerosis, and certain infections. Pregnancy and childbirth in females can also be a cause.
The problem can occur at any age and in both sexes, although urinary incontinence is more prevalent in females, mainly due to child birth. Sufferers may also be mentally affected as well as physically, and many individuals tend to lock themselves away for fear of being ridiculed. This obviously affects the social and professional life of the individual involved.
Nearly 80% of urinary incontinence sufferers can have their condition cured or vastly improved but a proper diagnosis has to be made initially to determine what type of incontinence is present as there are different types with different treatment options. In the more usual circumstances, incontinence involves combined treatments of medication, pelvic muscle reeducation, behavioral modification and collection devices.

Medication treatment on its own is also quite a common treatment, but this is only prescribed by a doctor once correct diagnosis has occurred. Surgery is also an option for many types of incontinence.
