Commonly Prescribed For: Zovirax is used as a treatment for Herpes Viruses, Genital Herpes, Chicken Pox, Eczema Herpeticum, Grey colored patches inside the cheek or on the tongue known as Oral Hairy Leukoplakia and HIV patients to prevent infections in eyes, mouth and nose

How to Take It: For genital herpes Zovirax should be taken 5 times daily, in doses of  200mg every 4 hours. This should last for about 10 days. If the disease is recurrent then 400 mg should be consumed twice daily for 12 months which should then be followed by an evaluation of your condition.

How it Works: The active ingredient Zovirax stops the herpes simplex virus from growing and infecting. Once inside your body cells Zovirax will stop the enzyme DNA polymerase so that the infection cannot spread.

Some Side Effects: Zovirax may cause headache, vision problems, upset stomach, muscle or joint pain, vomiting, hair loss and loss of appetite. Serious side effects include fever, rash or blisters, bloody urine, itching, stomach pain or cramps, difficulty breathing or swallowing, unusual bruising, swelling of the hands or lower legs, difficulty speaking, seizures, hallucinations and tingling in the hands.
