Zoloft
Other Names: Sertraline Hcl, Lustral, Sertralina, Sertralinum
Commonly Prescribed for: Zoloft is used as an anti-depressant that helps to treat depression and certain obsessive-compulsive disorders.
How to take it: Zoloft should be taken in one 50mg dosage per day with a glass of water for adults. For children who have been prescribed Zoloft for obsessive-compulsive disorders a 25mg does daily for children of the ages 6-10 and a 50mg daily for adolescents should be adhered to. The effects of Zoloft can take up to 4 weeks to be felt so you should not discontinue the treatment unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
How it Works: Zoloft increases your serotonin levels in your brain which leads to a more uplifting and positive feeling when the effects begin to commence. This also results in a reduced amount of panic attacks from those who suffer from them.
Some Side Effects: Zoloft is no different to any other medication in that some side effects are possible. Common effects can include: headaches, vomiting, nausea and tiredness. These effects do not usually have to result in medical attention. If you experience anything such as difficulty breathing, ringing in ears, fever, nose bleeds or severe muscle pain then it is advisable to seek immediate medical help.
