Commonly Prescribed for: Zocor is a drug that helps to lower your cholesterol and keep it at a safe level in your body. This is essentially to prevent such things as heart attacks and high blood pressure.
How to take it: This drug comes in tablet form which should be taken with a full glass of water with or without food. The dosage can vary from 5mg a day up to 80mg depending on your level of cholesterol and what dosage your doctor thinks will be most beneficial to you. Generally a dosage of 20-40mg per day, taken once in the evening, is the starting point for most patients.
How it Works: Zocor works by blocking a specific enzyme HMG-CoA Reductase which is responsible for producing cholesterol in the body. By restricting this enzymes’ performance Zocor helps to bring down the patients cholesterol level.
Some Side Effects: Zocor may cause headaches, vomiting, constipation and bloating are effects that do not require any vital assistance. If you experience any severe muscle pain, inability or difficulty breathing or flu like symptoms then this will require you to seek medical help, preferably right away.
