Zithromax

Other Names: Azithromycin

Commonly Prescribed for: Often prescribe to adults to treat mild to moderately serious skin disorders, tract infections, tonsillitis, sinus infections and STD’s of the urinary or cervix tact. It can also be administered to children to treat pneumonia, tonsillitis, and ear infections.

How to take it: For mild pneumonia, tonsillitis and skin infection it is recommended that a 500 mg dose is consumed on day 1 and a 250 mg dose daily for days 2 to 5. For STI’s the procedure alters to 1 single 1 gram dose. For infants it is recommended that they take 30mg per day either given as a whole dose or 3 separate ones of 10 mg each. This must continue for 2 days then the dosage is reduced to 5mg per day through to day 5.

How it Works: The active ingredient in Zithromax is azithromycin which helps to combat infection. It prevents bacteria from producing the proteins that are imperative for their growth and spread therefore limiting the infection. Your body’s immune system will eventually kill of the remaining bacteria resulting in the eradication of the disease or infection.

Some Side Effects: A common side effect of Zithromax is vomiting and slight abdominal pain. This is not a serious result of the drug however if it persists you should contact your doctor. Rare effects can include: fainting, insomnia, agitation, loss of hearing and palpitations. If you feel these effects are of a serious nature then you should seek medical help.
