How to Take it: Valacyclovir is available as tablets taken orally. To treat shingles, Valacyclovir is taken for every eight hours for a period of seven days. It is taken two times a day for a period five days to treat genital herpes. Take this medication either with food or without food.
How it Works: Velacyclovir fights against the herpes virus by slowing it down from replicating.
Some ide Effects: Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, nausea, belly pain, vomiting and constipation. Some serious side effects include rash, blood in the urine, fever, itching and confusion.
