Urso

Other Names: Ursidol, Actigall

Commonly Prescribed For: Urso is prescribed to patients for the treatment of primary biliary cirrhosis, which is a disease that affects the liver. It is also used in the treatment of, and prevention of gallstones forming in the body.

How to Take It: Urso comes in tablet form and is usually taken in tow to four doses each day. These tablets have to be taken with food.  The tablets are also scored down the middle which then allows for splitting in the case that half doses are required.  Urso tablets should be taken with water and washed down properly; they should not be chewed.

How It Works: Urso works by increasing the amount of bile created by the body, as liver diseases usually entail decreased bile being created in the body, as well as decreased bile flow.

Some Side Effects: Side Effects of Urso can include such conditions as dry skin, muscle or joint pain, abdominal pain, nausea, rash, headache, indigestion, swelling, tiredness, diarrhea or a harsh, metallic taste in the mouth.  More serious side effects from Urso can include trouble breathing; rash; swelling of face, mouth, or tongue; and, pain or tightness in the chest.
