Ultram
Other Names: Tramadol, Ultram ER, Ultracet
Commonly Prescribed For: Ultram is prescribed for the relief of moderate to severe pain. The more common reasons for prescribing Ultram would be to relieve the symptoms of arthritis pain, surgical pain or fibromyalgia.
How to Take It: Ultram should be taken as instructed by your GP. It comes in the form of an immediate release tablet (50mg) or extended release (100, 200 or 300mg). Doctors would prescribe the extended release tablets for those suffering from chronic pain as these tablets are suitable for long-term treatment. Ultram should be swallowed whole with water and taken as prescribed by your doctor who will determine the dosage per patient. The tablets should not be crushed, split or chewed and should not be taken by anyone under the age of 17.
How It Works: Ultram works by changing the way the body perceives pain. It blocks signals that the nerve endings send to the brain thus reducing the pain felt.
Some Side Effects: Side effects of taking Ultram can include, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, weakness, drowsiness, anxiety, headache, indigestion or hallucinations. There have also been increased reports of seizures in people taking Ultram, however, this is more likely to occur if you have any history of seizures, head injury, or if taking medicines for nausea and vomiting.
