Ultracet

Other Names: Tramadol, Tramal, Ultram, Mabron

Commonly Prescribed For: Ultracet is a painkiller which is used to treat medium to strong pain for a period of up to five days.  It is usually prescribed to relieve pain associated with dental or surgical procedures. Ultracet has also been used to treat symptoms of depression and anxiety, although it has not been fully endorsed for use in this way yet.

How to Take It: Ultracet is taken orally in the form of tablets swallowed with water.  Instructions provided in the packet should be followed although the normal dose is no more than two tablets at a time and no more than eight in a period of 24 hours.  Ultracet should not be taken if you are allergic to any of the active ingredients or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to another narcotic painkiller.  It should also not be taken in conjunction with alcohol or any other narcotic painkiller. Your doctor should be made aware before prescribing Ultracet if you have ever suffered from liver disease, stomach disorder, asthma, kidney disease, or depression, mental illness.

How It Works: Ultracet contains acetaminophen and tramol hydrochloride.  Acetaminophen is a pain reliever which also reduces fever and tramol hydrochloride works by having a positive effect on the brain and nervous system to reduce pain.  Combining both forms of drug helps to increase the effectiveness of pain relief.

Some Side Effects: Side effects of taking Ultracet can include drowsiness, increased perspiration, constipation, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, diarrhea and loss of appetite.
