Commonly Prescribed For: Nexium is a well known drug which is often used in the treatment of GERD, a condition where acid flows back form the stomach and affects the stomach lining. It is highly prescribed for reducing the probability of getting ulcer in an individual. It is sometime combined with other medications in order to prevent the symptoms caused by a bacterium, H. pylori.

How to Take it: Nexium is available in tablet for to be taken via mouth. The long acting capsules must be mixed with water and given via feeding pipe. It is advisable to take this pill an hour prior to taking meals every day. Swallow the entire pill and do not crush them into pieces. Take this tablet as directed by your physician.

How it Works: Nexium belongs to a group of drug commonly referred to as proton pump inhibitors. It reduces the excess amount of acid produced in the stomach and prevents the backward flow of acid form affecting the stomach walls.

Some Side Effects: Nexium usage often leads to less possible side effects like headache, constipation, diarrhea and dry mouth. In several cases in may lead to allergic reactions like blisters on the skin, difficulty while breathing, hoarseness and hives, swelling of face, lips or lower legs.
