Commonly Prescribed For: Sustiva is generally prescribed for treating human immunodeficiency virus infection in people either with or without AIDS. This medication can also e used along with other medications for preventing in people who were exposed to HIV. It is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Sustiva is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day along with water, either with food or without food. Take this medication as prescribed.
How it Works: Sustiva belongs to a group of drugs known as nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. This medication works to impede the spread of HIV to other parts of the body.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include upset stomach, pain, vomiting, unusual dreams, diarrhea, difficulty falling asleep, indigestion, abnormally happy mood, drowsiness, strange thoughts, headache, nervousness, difficulty concentrating, and forgetfulness. Some serious side effects include sore throat, seizures, itching, flu-like symptoms, sores on skin, yellowing of the skin, peeling skin, unusual bleeding or bruising, fainting, loss of appetite, rash, and extreme tiredness.
