Commonly Prescribed For: Stavudine is generally prescribed with other antiviral medications for treating human immunodeficiency virus infection in people either with or without AIDS. This medication can also be used with other medications for preventing HIV infection in workers who have been exposed to HIV accidentally. It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Stavudine is available in the form of a capsule, and a liquid to e taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken two times every day for every 12 hours, either with food or without food. Take this medication as prescribed.

How it Works: Stavudine belongs to a group of drugs known as NRITs. This medication works to impede the spread of HIV to other parts of the body.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include headache and diarrhea. Some serious side effects include numbness or burning in the hands, rash, trouble moving your feet, weakness in arms, upset stomach, shortness of breath, vomiting, and weakness or tiredness.
