Spironolactone

Commonly Prescribed For: Spironolactone is generally proscribed for treating hyperaldosteronism (a condition where the body produces large amounts of aldosterone), low potassium levels in individuals with edema. Spironolactone can be used alone or combined with other medications for treating high blood pressure.
How to Take it: Spironolactone is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is generally taken once every day in the dawn or it is taken two times a day. Take Spironolactone as prescribed, around the same time daily.
How it Works: Spironolactone belongs to a group of drugs known as aldosterone receptor antagonists. It works by allowing the kidneys to eradicate the unneeded water from the body in the form of urine.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include vomiting, restlessness, diarrhea, tiredness, stomach pain or cramps, drowsiness, dry mouth, deepening of voice, thirst, achieving an erection, dizziness, vaginal bleeding in post-menstrual, headache and irregular menstrual period. Some serious side effects include muscle weakness, fainting, numbness, blurred vision, inability to move legs/arms, decreased urination, changes in heartbeat, blood in stools, confusion, vomiting blood, nausea, difficulty breathing or swallowing, extreme tiredness, itching, unusual bleeding or bruising, hives, lack of energy, rash, loss of appetite, gray skin, yellowing of the skin, sore throat and flu-like symptoms.
