Commonly Prescribed For: Sodium Valproate is generally prescribed for controlling seizures and for treating seizure disorders, such as complex partial seizures, and absence seizures. This medication can also be used for treating epilepsy in people who are not able to take oral form of this medication. It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Sodium Valproate is available in the form of an injection. Use this medication as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: Sodium Valproate belongs to a group of drug known as anticonvulsant. This medication works to increase some chemical substances present in the brain.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include changes in appetite, weight changes, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, trouble sleeping, hair loss, stomach cramps, or pain, headache, nausea, and ingestion. Some serious side effects include rash, inflammation of the mouth, lips, or tongue, hives, abnormal thinking, difficulty breathing, yellowing of the eyes, blurred vision, unusual weakness, changes in menstrual period, unusual bleeding or bruising, chest pain, trouble sleeping, chills, swollen lymph nodes, dark urine, sore throat, difficulty  speaking, shortness of breath, difficulty urinating, sever or persistent pain, extreme tiredness, stomach pain, fast or irregular heartbeat, pale stools, hallucinations, ringing in the ears, joint or muscle pain, new or worsening tools, and general body discomfort.
