Commonly Prescribed For: Singulair is generally prescribed for preventing breathing difficulties, and chest tightness caused due to asthma. This medication can also be used for preventing bronchospasm during exercise. This medication can also be used for treating symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Singulair is available in the form of a tablet, granules, and as a chewable tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day, either with food or without food. It must be taken two hours before exercise to avoid breathing difficulties while exercising. Take this medication as prescribed, around the same time daily.
How it Works: Singulair belongs to a group of drugs known as leukotriene receptor antagonists. This medication works to block the action of some substances present in the body, which causes the symptoms of allergic rhinitis.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, tiredness, dizziness, and stomach pain. Some serious side effects include difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the sinuses, inflammation of the face, lips, hands, or lower legs, numbness in the arms, hoarseness, flu-like symptoms, itching, fever, and rash.
