Simvastatin
Other Names: Zocor, Simcor, Vytorin.
Commonly Prescribed For: Simvastatin is commonly prescribed along with diet and exercise for reducing the quantity of cholesterol and other fatty substances present in the blood. It is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Simvastatin is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken 1 to 3 times every day. Take this medication as prescribed, around the same time daily.
How it Works: Simvastatin belongs to a group of drugs known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. This medication works to impede the cholesterol production in the body.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include constipation. Some serious side effects include muscle pain or weakness, hoarseness, lack of energy, fever, inflammation of the face, lips, hands, or lower legs, yellowing of the skin, difficulty breathing or swallowing, nausea, itching, extreme tiredness, hives, unusual bleeding or bruising, rash, and loss of appetite.
