Commonly Prescribed For: Serevent is generally prescribed for treating wheezing, and shortness of breath caused due to lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (diseases that generally affects lungs and air passages) and asthma. This medication can also be used for preventing bronchospasm during exercise.

How to Take it: Serevent is available in the form of a dry powder to be inhaled via mouth using an inhaler. This medication is normally taken two times every day in the dawn and in the evening at an interval of 12 hours for treating asthma or COPD.  It is taken half an hour before exercise to avoid breathing difficulties during exercise. Take this medication as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: Serevent belongs to a group of drugs known as long-acting beta agonists. This medication works to relax and open the air passages towards the lungs in order to make breathing easier.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, tingling of the hands, nervousness, difficulty falling asleep, dizziness, red or irritated eyes, stuffed nose, sores in the mouth, ear pain, dry mouth, runny nose, tooth pain, pale skin, heartburn, muscle pain, nausea, sore throat, and flu-like symptoms. Some serious side effects include tightness in the chest, high-pitched breathing, fast or irregular breathing, choking or difficulty swallowing, chest pain, hoarseness, and inflammation of the face, lips, hands or lower legs.
