Rizatriptan

Other Names: Maxalt

Commonly Prescribed For: Rizatriptan is generally prescribed for treating the symptoms associated with migraine headaches (throbbing headaches that are accompanied by sensitivity to noise and light). It is commonly used with medications.

How to Take it: Rizatriptan belongs to a group of drugs known as selective serotonin receptor agonists. This medication works to narrow the blood vessels present in the brain and hence stops the pain signals from being sent back to your brain. This may thwart the discharge of some natural substances that leads to cause nausea and certain symptoms of migraine.

How it Works: Rizatriptan is available in the form of a tablet, an orally disintegrating capsule to be taken via mouth. A single dose of this medication is normally taken as per the doctor’s advice. If pain persists, then the second dose is normally taken two hours after taking the first dose. Take this medication as prescribed

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, feeling of warmth, fatigue, chills, tingling or num feeling, tremors, upset stomach, muscle pain or cramps, stomach pain, and diarrhea. Some serious side effects include chest pain, changes in vision, fast or irregular heartbeat, rash, throat pain or tightness, redness, inflammation of the eyelids, and difficulty breathing.
