Commonly Prescribed For: Retrovir can be used alone or combined with other medications for treating human immunodeficiency virus infection in people either with or without AIDS. It is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Retrovir is available in the form of tablets, capsules, and a liquid to be taken via mouth. For adults recommended dosage is 100 mg to be taken 3 times every day. 300 mg of this medication is normally taken two times every day, on an empty stomach. Take this medication as prescribed.
How it Works: Retrovir belongs to a group of drugs known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. This medication works to block reverse transcriptase. This may eventually slow down the HIV disease.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include stomach pain, difficulty falling asleep, diarrhea or loose tools, dizziness, and constipation. Some serious side effects include rash, pain, tenderness, swelling, warmth, redness, and irritation.
