Provera
Other Names: Medroxyprogesterone, Cycrin.
Commonly Prescribed For: Provera is generally prescribed for treating abnormal menstruation or irregular vaginal bleeding. This medication can also be used to maintain normal menstrual cycle in many women who have been experiencing irregular menstruation. It can be used for preventing overgrowth of uterus lining and may reduce the risk of uterus cancer in people who are taking estrogen.
How to Take it: Provera is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day at regular intervals. Take Provera as prescribed, around the same time daily.
How it Works: Provera belongs to a group of drugs known as progestins. This medication works to thwart the growth of uterus lining by making the uterus to produce some hormones.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include weight gain or loss, breasts that are tender, upset stomach, changes in menstrual flow, drowsiness, irregular vaginal bleeding, difficulty falling asleep, acne, and loss of hair. Some serious side effects include difficulty breathing or swallowing, slow or difficult speech, itching, numbness of an arm, skin rash, shortness of breath, fever, coughing up blood, yellowing of the skin, crushing chest pain, depression, fast or pounding heartbeat, missed periods, double vision, and bulging eyes.
