Other Names: Albuterol, Accuneb, Proair HFA, Ventolin.
Commonly Prescribed For: Proventil is generally prescribed for preventing and treating wheezing, and chest tightness caused due to lung diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (disease that is said to affects the lungs), and asthma. This medication can also be used for stopping breathing difficulties during exercise.
How to Take it: Proventil is available in the form of a solution to be inhaled via mouth using nebulizer. It is also available as an aerosol to be inhaled via mouth using an inhaler. This medication is normally used fro every four to six hours to treat symptoms of lung disease. The nebulizer solution is generally used 3 to 4 times every day. Take this medication as prescribed.
How it Works: Proventil belongs to a group of drugs known as bronchodilators. This medication works to relax and open air passages to your lungs in order to make breathing easier.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include uncontrollable body movements, muscle or back pain, nervousness, throat irritation, headache, cough, and nausea. Some serious side effects include fast or irregular heartbeat, hoarseness, chest pain, difficulty breathing, rash, increased difficulty breathing, hives, inflammation of the face, tongue, hands, or lower legs, and itching.
