Protonix

Commonly Prescribed For: Protonix is generally prescribed for treating gastroesophageal disease (a condition where acid flows in backward direction form the stomach and leads to heartburn and esophageal injury). This medication can also be used for treating Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (condition where you stomach produces excess amounts of acid).
How to Take it: Protonix is available in the form of a delayed-release tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once or two times every day. Do not chew or crush the tablets, instead swallow the tablets entirely. Take Protonix as prescribed, around the same time daily.
How it Works: Protonix belongs to a group of drugs known as proton-pump inhibitors. This medication works to reduce the quantity of acid secreted in the stomach.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include diarrhea, gas or bloating, and headache.
