Propranolol

Commonly Prescribed For: Propranolol is generally prescribed for treating high blood pressure and abnormal heart rhythms. This medication can also be used for preventing angina and heart attacks. It is used to stop migraine headaches and tremors. Propranolol is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Propranolol is available in the form of a tablet or as capsules to be taken via mouth. It is also available as a liquid or concentrate. Immediate-acting tablets can be taken 2 to 4 times every day. The extended-release tablets are normally taken once every day. Do not chew or rush the extended-release tablets, instead swallow the tablets entirely. Take this medication as prescribed.

How it Works: This medication works to relax your blood vessels so that your heart doesn’t require pumping very hard.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include dizziness or lightheadedness, constipation, difficulty sleeping, diarrhea, excessive tiredness, rash, and upset stomach. Some serious side effects include difficulty breathing, slow or irregular heartbeat, sore throat, chest pain, unusual bleeding, unusual weight gain, and inflammation of the feet.
