Commonly Prescribed For: Progesterone is a female hormone, generally prescribed for treating menstrual problems. This medication can also be combined with hormone replacement therapy after menopause. It is a combination medication, which is used for preventing heart disease.

How to Take it: Progesterone is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day on the evening or at bedtime. Morning dosage is normally taken two hour after taking break fast, two times every day. Take this medication as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: This medication works along with estrogen in order to maintain reproductive organs, regulate menstrual cycle, and prepare for pregnancy.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include stomach upset, dizziness, cramps, drowsiness, abnormal vaginal bleeding, breast tenderness, yellowing of the skin, migraine-type headache, itching, breathing problems, rash, vision problems, depression, memory loss, chest pain, and inflammation in the legs.
