Commonly Prescribed For: Prochlorperazine Maleate is generally prescribed for treating and controlling severe nausea and vomiting. This medication can also be used for treating symptoms associated with schizophrenia. It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Prochlorperazine Maleate is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken 3 to 4 times every day by adults and 1 to 3 times every day by children. Take this medication as prescribed, around the same time every day.

How it Works: Prochlorperazine Maleate belongs to a group of drugs known as conventional antipsychotics. This medication works to reduce unusual excitement in the brain.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include decreased sexual ability, drowsiness, missed menstrual periods, breast enlargement, dizziness, blurred vision, breast milk production, stuffed nose, blank facial expression, shuffling walk, headache, difficulty urinating, increased appetite, weight gain, and difficulty falling asleep. Serious side effects include vision loss, muscle stiffness, itching, erection, fast or irregular heartbeat, flu-like symptoms, neck cramps, seizures and hives.
