Commonly Prescribed For: Prevacid is generally prescribed for treating ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (condition where your stomach produces excess amount of acid), and gastroesophageal reflux disease (a condition where acid flows in backward direction from the stomach and leads to heartburn and esophagus injury). This medication is combined with other medications to eradicate H. pylori (bacteria that lead to ulcers). It is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Prevacid is available in the form of a delayed-release capsule, a delayed-release solution, and as granules to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day, before taking meals. Prevacid is taken two times every day for a period of 12 hours to eliminate H. pylori, when combined other medications. Swallow the capsules entirely. Take Prevacid as prescribed, around the same time daily
How it Works: Prevacid belongs to a class of medications commonly referred to as proton-pump inhibitors. Its main function is to decrease the quantity of acid formed in the stomach, which could prevent heartburn
Some Side Effects: Common side effects are stomach pain and diarrhea.
