Pravachol

Other Names: Pravastatin Sodium.

Commonly Prescribed For: Pravachol is generally prescribed along with diet and exercise to decrease the quantity of cholesterol and other fatty substance present in the blood. It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Pravachol is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day, either with food or without food. Take Pravachol as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: Pravachol belongs to a group of drugs known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. This medication works to slow down the production of cholesterol in your body.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include heartburn and headache. Some serious side effects include muscle pain, tenderness, hoarseness, lack of energy, difficulty breathing or swallowing, fever, itching, yellowing of the skin, hives, nausea, rash, extreme tiredness,  flu-like symptoms, unusual bleeding or bruising, inflammation of the face, tongue, hands, or lower legs, and loss of appetite.
