Pioglitazone

Commonly Prescribed For: Pioglitazone is generally prescribed with diet or other medications for treating type 2 diabetes (a condition where the body doesn’t uses insulin usually and fails to control the quantity of sugar present in the blood). It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Pioglitazone is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day, either with food or without food. Take Pioglitazone as prescribed around the same time daily.

How it Works: Pioglitazone belongs to a group of drugs known as thiazolidinediones. This medication works to increase the sensitivity of the body to insulin (a substance, which helps to control blood sugar levels).

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include runny nose, sore throat, headache, and tooth or mouth pain. Some serious side effects include nausea, vision loss, vomiting, blurred vision, loss of appetite, dry mouth, decreased consciousness, upset stomach, breath that smells fruity, yellowing of the skin, and excessive tiredness.
