Periactin

Commonly Prescribed For: Periactin is generally prescribed for relieving irritated, watery eyes, runny nose caused due to allergies, and hay fever. This medication can also be used for relieving itching and treating hives caused due to exposure to cold temperatures. Periactin is also used sometimes for treating allergic reactions in patients who received blood products for treating life-threatening allergic reactions. It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Periactin is available in the form of a tablet, as a solution to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken 2 or 3 times every day. Take Periactin as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it Works: Periactin belongs to a group of drugs known as antihistamines. This medication works to block the action of histamine (substance present in the body that leads to allergic symptoms).

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include dry mouth, muscle weakness, drowsiness, excitement, dizziness, headache, and nausea. Some serious side effects include difficulty urinating, nervousness, and changes in vision.
