Commonly Prescribed For: Paxil is generally prescribed for treating depression, panic disorder (unexpected attacks of excessive fear), and social anxiety disorder (fear of interacting or performing before others). How to Take it: Paxil is available in the form of a tablet, long-acting tablet, and a suspension liquid to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day in the dawn or evening, with food or without food. Do not chew or split the extended-release tablets, instead swallow the tablet entirely. Take Paxil as prescribed around the same time daily.
How it Works: Paxil belongs to a group of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. This medication works to increase the quantity of serotonin (a substance present in the brain, which helps to maintain mental balance).
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include painful or irregular menstruation, headache, unusual dreams, weakness, problems with teeth, difficulty concentrating, nervousness, muscle weakness or tightness, forgetfulness, tightness in throat, confusion, cough, feeling “drugged, runny nose, sensitivity to light, nausea, constipation, yawning, stomach pain, weight loss or gain, dizziness, and changes in sex drive. Serious side effects include bloody vomit, blurred vision, black and tarry stools, difficulty breathing , skin rash, fast or irregular heartbeat, hoarseness, sore throat, skin rash, tingling in your hands, bloating, and hives.
