Pantoprazole
Other Names: Protonix.
Commonly Prescribed For: Pantoprazole is generally prescribed for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (a condition where acid flows backward from the stomach and leads to heartburn and esophageal injury). This medication can also be used for treating Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a condition where the stomach secretes excessive amounts of acid). Pantoprazole is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Pantoprazole is available in the form of a delayed-release tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once or two times every day, either with food or without food. Do not chew or crush the tablets, instead swallow the tablets entirely. Take Pantoprazole as prescribed around the same time daily.
How it Works: Pantoprazole belongs to a group of drugs known as proton-pump inhibitors. This medication works to reduce the quantity of acid secrete in the stomach.
