Noroxin

Other Names: Norfloxacin

Commonly Prescribed For: Noroxin is an antibacterial drug, prescribed for treating urinary tract infections, including cystitis and prostatitis (swelling of the prostate gland).  It is also used for treating sexually transmitted disease like gonorrhea.

How to Take it: Noroxin comes in the form of tablets to be taken by mouth. It is normally taken two times a day for a period of 28 days. It is advisable to take Noroxin at the same time each day with an interval of 12 hours. Take Noroxin an hour prior to taking meals or 2 hours after taking meals.

How it Works: Noroxin belongs to a class of antibiotics known as quinolone.  Noroxin enters the bacterial cell and retards the formation of a chemical called DNA-gyrase, which is necessary for the production of a genetic material (DNA). Therefore it works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

Some Side Effects: Noroxin leads to some side effects like nausea, weakness, diarrhea, headache and stomach cramps. Some serious side effects include severe diarrhea, tingling in the legs, rash, restlessness, itching, anxiety, hives, hallucination, difficulty in breathing, confusion, swelling of the face, seizures, hoarseness, fainting, loss of consciousness, irregular heartbeat, blistering or peeling skin, unusual bleeding, fever and muscle pain.
