Commonly Prescribed For: Metronidazole is an antibiotic, prescribed for treating several bacterial infections of the joints, vagina, urinary tract and respiratory tract. Metronidazole is also combined with other antibiotics to treat swellings in the liver, brain and abdomen due to susceptible anaerobic bacteria. It may be used for other sorts of medication.

How to Take it: Metronidazole comes in the form tablets, lotion or cream. Metronidazole cream should be applied once or two times a day for a period of 5 days. Metronidazole tablets should be taken orally with or without food. Regular usage of Metronidazole may lead to effective results.

How it Works: Metronidazole putts off the growth bacteria in your body by entering into the bacterial cell. It blocks some of the important functions of the bacterial cells, which results in the death of bacteria in your body.

Some Side Effects: Metronidazole may cause nausea, vaginal itching, and loss of appetite, sore tongue, unpleasant metallic taste, dizziness, stomach pain, stuffy nose, dry mouth, headache and cough. Serious side effects include seizures, diarrhea that is watery, flu symptoms, and sores inside your mouth, body aches and fever.
