Loratadine

Commonly Prescribed For: Loratadine is normally prescribed for treating symptoms associated with hay fever (allergy to dust) and other allergies. Some of the symptoms include throat infection, runny nose, nose, sneezing and itchy eyes. It can also be used for treating redness due to hives.

How to Take it: Loratadine is available in the form of a syrup (liquid), as a rapidly disintegrating tablet, to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day, either with food or without a meal. Take Loratadine as prescribed.

How it Works: Loratadine belongs to a group of drugs known as antihistamines. It blocks the action of histamine that causes allergic symptoms.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, red or itchy eyes, dry mouth, diarrhea, nosebleed, stomach pain, sore throat, weakness, mouth sores, nervousness and difficulty sleeping. Some serious side effects include rash, wheezing, hives, difficulty breathing, itching, hoarseness and inflammation of the face, hands, feet or lower legs.
