Lipitor

Other Names: Atorvastatin Calcium.

Commonly Prescribed For: Lipitor is a cholesterol-lowering drug, normally prescribed for treating several symptoms related to heart disease. Lipitor is used to lessen triglycerides in individuals with hypertriglyceridemia. Lipitor may reduce ApoB cholesterol (a kind of bad cholesterol), total cholesterol, and is used to raise HDL (good cholesterol).

How to Take it: Lipitor is usually taken once every day, either with food or without food. Take this medication either in the morning or in the evening around the same time every day. Sometimes Lipitor is combined with another lipid-lowering drug known as cholestyramine to treat high cholesterol. Take Lipitor an hour prior to the usage of the other drug.

How it Works: Lipitor works by clearing the destructive low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol from the blood and limits the body’s ability to generate new LDL cholesterol.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include abdominal pain ,fluid retention, abnormal heartbeat, flu symptoms, accidental injury, dizziness, allergic reactions, diarrhea, arthritis, constipation, back pain, gas, bronchitis, nasal passages, chest pain, inflammation of sinus, weakness, indigestion, urinary tract infection, insomnia, stomach pain, infection, nausea and muscle pain.
