Commonly Prescribed For: Lexapro is an antidepressant, normally prescribed for treating major disorders in adolescents. It is also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder. Lexapro is commonly used with other prescription.

How to Take it: Lexapro is available in the form of a tablet, a solution (liquid) to be taken via mouth. It is normally taken once every day, either with food or without food. Take Lexapro at the same time daily.

How it Works: Lexapro belongs to a group of antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It increases the quantity of serotonin, an innate substance present in the brain, which helps to maintain mental balance.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, sneezing, diarrhea, runny nose, constipation, and flu-like symptom, changes in sex drive, increased appetite, drowsiness, dry mouth, excessive tiredness, dizziness and stomach burn. Serious side effects include unusual excitement, fever, and severe muscle stiffness, hearing unusual voices, confusion and irregular heartbeat.
