Levothyroxine

Commonly Prescribed For: Levothyroxine is a hormone, normally prescribed for treating hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone). Levothyroxine is used to treat enlarged thyroid gland due to hormone imbalances, surgical treatment or cancer. It is commonly used with other medications.
How to Take it: Take Levothyroxine half an hour before eating, on an empty stomach. Take Levothyroxine with eight ounces of water to prevent choking or gagging in the throat. This medication is normally taken in the morning. Continue taking Levothyroxine even if you feel good to replace thyroid hormone that your body cannot produce.
How it Works: Levothyroxine works by boosting thyroid levels in your body to treat hypothyroidism.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include chest pain, rash, irregular heartbeat, hives, unusual hoarseness, excessive sweating, difficulty breathing, leg cramps, wheezing, vomiting, heat intolerance, unusual weight loss, itching, muscle weakness, stomach cramps, tremors, mood changes and shortness of breath.
