Other Names: Levofloxacin.

Commonly Prescribed For: Levaquin is used for treating infections like chronic bronchitis, skin infections, pneumonia, urinary tract infections and sinus. It is commonly used for preventing anthrax.

How to Take it: Levaquin is available in the form of solution (liquid), injected through needle in your vein. It is normally injected into the vein for a period of one hour or more, once every 24 hours.

How it Works: Levaquin belongs to a group of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones. It kills the bacteria responsible for causing the infections.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include severe diarrhea, irregular heartbeat, stomach cramps, fainting, rash or blisters, hives, hoarseness, itching, throat tightness, tingling of the face, eyes or lower legs, and difficulty breathing. Serious side effects include chest pain, tingling in the body, joint or muscle pain, depression, fever, hallucinations, unusual bruising or bleeding, nightmares or abnormal dreams, extreme tiredness, difficulty sleeping, lack of energy, anxiety, loss of appetite, restlessness, yellowing of the skin, nervousness, dark urine, confusion and flu-like symptoms.
