Letrozole
Other Names: Femara.
Commonly Prescribed For: Letrozole is normally prescribed for treating breast cancer in women. Letrozole is sometimes combined with other medication known as tamoxifen for treating breast cancer. It can be used to impede the growth of cancer cells from spreading.
How to Take it: Letrozole is normally taken once every day, either with food or without a meal. It is advisable to take Letrozole at the same time each day.
How it Works: Letrozole belongs to a group of drugs called nonsteroidal aromatase inhibitors. It works by reducing the quantity of estrogen formed by the body. It retards or impedes the growth of breast cancer.
Some Side Effects: Common side effects include night sweats, rash, nausea, cough, vomiting, pain on urination, muscle or joint pain, difficulty urinating, excessive tiredness, flu-like symptoms, headache, breast pain, dizziness, vaginal bleeding or irritation, muscle weakness, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite, stomach pain, inflammation of the hands and constipation. Some serious side effects include chest pain, osteoporosis and difficulty breathing.
