Commonly Prescribed For: Lasix is a potent diuretic, normally prescribed for treating excessive accumulation of fluid in your body. It is also used for treating nephritic syndrome. It may be combined with other medications for treating high blood pressure. It is commonly used with other medications.

How to Take it: Lasix is available in the form of a tablet and suspension liquid to be taken via mouth. It is normally taken once or two days every day in the morning and at noon. The recommended dosage to treat hypertension is nearly 40 mg to be taken two times every day.

How it Works: Lasix absorbs sodium and water from the fluid that is filtered in the kidney tubules, thereby increases diuresis (output of urine).

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include muscle cramps, constipation, weakness, restlessness, dizziness, headache, confusion, blurred vision and upset stomach. Some serious side effects include fever, excessive weight loss, sore throat, difficulty breathing, ringing in the ears, loss of hearing and unusual bleeding.
