Lamivudine

Other Names: Combivir, Epzicom, Trizivir

Commonly Prescribed For: Lamivudine is normally prescribed for treating infections due to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is also used to treat the hepatitis B infection. At time, Lamivudine is used with another drug called zidovudine to treat HIV.

How to Take it: Lamivudine is available as a tablet, liquid to be taken by mouth. It is normally taken two times a day with an interval of 12 hours. Continue this medication even if you feel good.

How it Works: Lamivudine belongs to a class of medications known as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. It stops the spread of human immuno deficiency virus and hepatitis B viruses.

Some Side Effects: Lamivudine leads to certain side effects like diarrhea, cough, headache, stuffy nose, fatigue, depression, chills, trouble sleeping, upset stomach and loss of appetite. Adversarial side effects include rash, tingling in the fingers, stomach pain, muscle pain, vomiting and fever.
