Commonly prescribed for: Ketoconazole is commonly prescribed to treat fungal infections.

How to take it: You can take Ketoconazole with or without food. It’s most effective when taken at a set time each day and even if you start feeling better make sure you finish your dosage to prevent relapse of sickness. If you miss a dose take it but skip it if it’s time for your next one – two dosages is dangerous and should not be taken.

How it works: Ketoconazole is an antifungal. It’s highly effective because it disables the fungal cell membrane which in turn causes the cell to die.

Some side effects: It’s very important to stop the treatment immediately and call your doctor if you’re experiencing yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, pale urine or unusual fatigue that you call your doctor immediately as this may be a sign of liver failure. Ketoconazole may cause nausea, upset stomach. If any of these symptoms occur contact your health specialist; depression; irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual tiredness or fatigue; vision changes; vomiting; yellowing of the skin or eyes.
