Commonly prescribed for: Hyzaar is a combination medication that contains other drugs like hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. This medication can be used for treating high blood pressure. It is commonly used with other medications.

How to take it: Hyzaar is available in the form of a tablet to be taken via mouth. This medication is normally taken once every day, either with food or without food. Take this medication as prescribed, around the same time daily.

How it works: Losartan belongs to a group of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works to prevent narrowing of the blood vessels, which helps to lower the blood pressure and hence improve blood flow. Hydrochlorothiazide belongs to a group of drugs known as thiazide diuretic. This medication works to the ability of the body to absorb too much of salt content that can prevent cause fluid retention.

Side effects: Common side effects include stomach pain, dry mouth, back pain, runny or stuffy nose, dizziness, sore throat, and skin rash. Some serious side effects include feeling light-headed, fast heart rate, inflammation, seizure, rapid weight gain, increased urination, fast or pounding heartbeat, dry mouth, confusion, increased or decreased urination, increased thirst, and fainting.
