Commonly Prescribed For: Ringworm infections like Athlete’s foot, facial hair follicle inflammation (Barber’s itch), Ringworm of the nails, Ringworm of the body, Ringworm of the scalp, Ringworm of the thigh and groin are treated using Gris –PEG. It is also prescribed for some of the specific fungal infections.

How to Take it: Gris – PEG comes in capsules, tablet and liquid taken via mouth. It is preferred to take Gris – PEG during meal times or along with food or whole milk thereby minimizing irritation in stomach and also helping the body to absorb the drug. For treating skin infections it is prescribed for two to four weeks, four to six weeks for scalp and hair infections, four to eight weeks for foot infections, three to four months for infections in finger nails and no less than six months for toe nail infections. It is strictly advised not to take 2 doses at a time in case if you miss a dose.
How it Works: Gris – PEG concentrates itself in a protein called keratin that is present in the areas such as hair, skin and nails. It interferes with the growth of fungal cell and stops replication thereby preventing further infections due to new keratin in those areas.
Some Side Effects: Fatigue, dizziness, faintness, upset stomach, vomiting, loose stools or diarrhea and thirst. Ruthless side effects include sore throat, fever, skin rash, irritation or mouth soreness.
