Gemfibrozil

Commonly Prescribed For: Gemfibrozil is normally prescribed for treating people with high serum triglycerides and hence decreases the amount of cholesterol. Sometimes Gemfibrozil is combined with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein.  This medication decreases the peril of coronary heart disease.

How to Take it: Gemfibrozil is available in the form of a tablet to take via mouth. This medication is normally taken two times a day, half an hour prior to taking meals in the morning and evening. Make sure to take Gemfibrozil around the same time each day.

How it Works: Gemfibrozil belongs to a group of lipid-regulating drugs known as fibrates. It reduces certain kinds of cholesterol, especially triglycerides production in the liver.

Some Side Effects: Common side effects include stomach pain, vertigo, acute appendicitis, rash, constipation, nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, eczema, heartburn and headache. Some serious side effects include blurred vision, muscle pain and weakness.
