Flupenthixol

Commonly Prescribed For: Flupenthixol is prescribed for the treatment of mental emotional or nervous conditions.
How to Take It: Flupenthixol in tablet form should be swallowed with a full glass of water or milk in order to avoid stomach upset. The oral solution should be diluted before taking. It can be mixed with water, soup, tomato or fruit juice or milk. You should only take the dose prescribed by your doctor. Do not take larger amounts of the medication or take it for longer than the time indicated by your doctor. Continue to take the medication for the specified length of time.
How It Works: Flupenthixol is a mood stabilizer. It works by increasing the amount of noradrenaline and serotonin (the chemicals which control mood and thinking) in the body, thus improving mood.
Some Side Effects: Side effects of Flupenthixol can include dizziness; fainting; dry mouth; lightheadedness; decreased perspiration; increased appetite; itching, red or other discoloration of skin; stuffy nose; weight gain or increased sensitivity to sunlight. More serious side effects can include loss of balance; restlessness; muscle spasms; uncontrolled movement of arms and legs; inability to move eyes; difficulty swallowing or unusual bruising or bleeding. Signs of a serious allergic reaction could include trouble breathing; tightness of the chest; rash; itching; hives or swollen face, lips or tongue.
