Floxin
Other Names: Ofloxacin
Commonly Prescribed For: Floxin is prescribed for the treatment of bacteria found in the body which can cause urinary tract infections, Chlamydia, pneumonia, skin infections, bronchitis, gonorrhea and infections of the prostate. It is part of a group of antibiotics which are called fluroquinolones.
How To Take It: Floxin should only be taken as directed by your doctor. You should not take any more than was prescribed for you and you should not take it for longer than instructed by your doctor. It comes in tablet form and should be taken with a full glass of water. In addition you should make sure to drink a number of extra glasses of water to avoid crystals in your urine. It should be taken at the same time each day and can be taken with or without food. You should continue to take the full course of Floxin that has been prescribed for you even if symptoms start to disappear as the symptoms sometimes improve before the infection has completely gone.
How It Works: Floxin works by killing bacteria which causes infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, Chlamydia etc. It kills these bacteria by stopping the body producing the proteins that the bacteria need to continue to exist.
Some Side Effects: Side effects of Floxin can include headaches, muscle pain, nausea, vaginal itching, dizziness, vomiting, insomnia, feeling restless, abdominal pain or constipation.. Signs of an allergic reaction to the drug can include rash; trouble breathing; swelling of face, mouth or tongue; or, tightness in the chest. Other serious side effects can include seizures, watery diarrhea, hallucinations, fainting, palpitations, swelling near the joints, fever, pale or yellow urine, numbness, or bruising easily.
