Flexeril
Other Names: Amrix, Fexmid
Commonly Prescribed For: Flexeril is prescribed for the treatment of severe back pain caused by muscle spasms. It can also be used for treating other conditions such as fibromyalgia.
How to Take It: Flexeril should only be taken as prescribed by your doctor. You should not take it for any longer than the dose prescribed and you should not take any more of the medication than instructed. Flexeril comes in tablet form which should be swallowed whole with water. You should not break, crush or chew the tablets. This could cause you to ingest too much of the medication at one time. If you forget to take a tablet you should take it as soon as you remember but not if it is too near to your next dose. Never take more than one tablet at a time.
How It Works: Flexeril works by relaxing the nervous system and relaxes the muscle spasms. Flexeril blocks the pain sensations which are sent to your brain from the muscle spasms which in turns reduces the pain.
Some Side Effects: Side Effects of Flexeril can include drowsiness, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dry mouth, nervousness and constipation. Severe side effects could include signs of an allergic reaction such as trouble breathing; rash; tight chest; itching; swelling of the face, mouth or tongue or hives. Other serious side effects include seizures; mood swings; vomiting; speech or vision problems; dizziness; trouble urinating; severe abdominal pain; numbness of an arm or leg; or palpitations.
